The source and coverage
Our calculations use Cricsheet’s SA20 ball-by-ball archive. This snapshot contains 130 matches from 10 Jan 2023 to 25 Jan 2026, covering 2022–23, 2023–24, 2024–25, 2025–26. It was retrieved on 19 Oct 2026. We describe coverage as source matches, not a claim that every scheduled fixture is included.
Contains information from Cricsheet, which is made available under the Open Data Commons Attribution License (ODC-By) 1.0. We normalize venue names and calculate the aggregates shown here. This is an independent project, not an official league or Cricsheet product.
Average and median first-innings scores
The average is total first-innings runs divided by eligible innings. The median is the middle total after sorting; with an even sample, it is the mean of the two middle totals. Both use the same sample shown beside the result.
We exclude reduced-overs matches, DLS or revised-target matches, no-results and incomplete first innings from the venue scoring sample. Super Over innings are excluded; a tied regulation match can still supply an eligible first innings. An all-out innings remains eligible when the match was scheduled for the full 20 overs and passes the other eligibility rules. Bowling a team out early does not by itself make a match rain-shortened.
Successful chases
The numerator counts eligible matches won by the team batting second. The denominator counts eligible decided matches. No-results, ties, Super Over deciders and shortened/DLS games are excluded from this measure. We show the numerator and denominator together. A 60% historical rate is not a 60% forecast.
Innings phases and legal balls
Powerplay covers overs 1–6, middle overs 7–15 and death overs 16–20. Phase charts pool both regulation innings of eligible standard matches. Run rate is phase runs divided by phase legal balls, multiplied by six. Wides and no-balls add runs but do not count as legal balls. Overs notation is balls, not a decimal: 19.2 means 19 overs and two balls.
Player and team tables
Player tables include regular innings in the available source matches, including shortened games; Super Overs are excluded. Batter runs exclude extras. Balls faced exclude wides. Strike rate is runs per 100 balls faced. Bowler economy excludes byes and leg-byes from conceded runs and uses legal balls. Run outs and other non-bowler dismissals are excluded from bowling wickets.
Team tables count recorded match outcomes across the source archive. DLS wins are included. Regulation ties remain ties even when a Super Over determines the eventual winner. These totals therefore have a different eligibility rule from the venue chase rate.
Limitations and corrections
- This is a historical snapshot of available Cricsheet SA20 files, not a live feed or every scheduled fixture. Matches abandoned without ball-by-ball data may be absent.
- CSA T20 Challenge and international matches are excluded; SA20 results must not be described as all T20 cricket at a ground.
- First-innings mean and median exclude no-result matches, modified result methods, reduced or revised targets, and incomplete first innings. All-out innings shorter than 20 overs remain eligible.
- Chase win percentage uses eligible standard matches with a regulation winner. Ties and Super Over results are excluded from this denominator.
- Phase rates pool runs, including extras, across both regulation innings of eligible matches. Wides and no-balls are excluded from legal balls. Partial phases remain included. Penalty runs outside deliveries are excluded from phase totals.
- Player leaders use all available regulation innings, including interrupted and no-result matches. Super Overs are excluded. Batting balls faced include no-balls and exclude wides.
- Bowler wickets exclude run outs and retirements. Bowling runs exclude byes, leg-byes and penalty runs. Team records include D/L results and record regulation ties separately from Super Over winners.
- Season labels follow Cricsheet. Ground differences are descriptive; opposition, squad strength, match stage and season can affect the sample. Historical chase percentages are not win probabilities or betting predictions.
Venue names are normalized; team strength, weather, toss decisions and match situations are not controlled for. Historical differences should not be read as causal effects or betting advice.
Report a correction with the ground, season, match date and the number in question. We check the source before changing a result.
